My suggestion is to take that cat for daily walks. They do sell cat leashes. Animal diet food never works if you're only using it to try to have your animal lose weight, you have to use it and have the animal exercise. If the cat won't walk on a leash I would also suggest getting another cat so he has a friend to play with.

Have you tried a laser pointer? My cats go nuts over chasing the dot. Does he come when you call him? Try going to the other end of the house and calling him and then giving him a ton of praise when he does. Then see if you can get him to walk around the house with you. Basically just keep trying things that will encourage him to move :)

Note: Don't let your cat become exhausted, overheated or out of breath.

Make sure not to free-feed him.
Give him food on a scheduled time, one cup of food every 6 or so hours.
Maybe think of getting another cat? They will run and chase and play with eachother for hours that will help him lose weight.
Try out many different toys for your cat to play with.

Do you free feed? If so give your cat actual meals so he cant eat all he wants. Another thing to do is to walk your cat on a leash. If treats motivate your cat to play then use them. Other than those things theres not much you can do.

How much food are you feeding him? You probably need to take him to the vet for a checkup. Make sure there isn't any type of medical reason for this fat cat. Then reduce his food intake a little bit. If he eats low fat cat food and eats to much for his metabolism, it wont work. If he is fat, he probably doesn't feel like playing. Just imagine a 500 pound person running a mile. Doesn't sound like that is possible. Ask your vet how much food, 1/4 -3/4 cup, your cat needs per day. Are you feeding him treats? If so cut those out. Table food or other animal food is something else to watch for.

next look at the food you are giving him and if its wet food toss it give him dry lean food with real ingredients and no pasteurized process food or any food with corn syrup it will shed pounds off the cat and do small activity's every day with the cat it helps in a long run for his health

i had the same problem. heres what i did. first you need a big backyard or lots of space and put a bowl of food and water outside for when he gets hungry or thirsty. the point is to keep him outside and just run around, being inside won't help. trust me had the same problem. hope this helps:)

I think that u should make it run or at least walk with u every morning. I had a dog that was fat and we gave her medicine and it worked for her. i think you should give ur cat medicine. best to find it online. i got my medicine at N'ZYMES. for a daily routine. u can have the daily routine like this: go for a walk around the block. try to make it play with strings. u should also make it use the medicine. i am sure that the powder and the antiacid pills are best to buy. that's what i bought for my dog. hope this works!!
