Question #2:

Gained a bit of weight after I quit smoking, need a good diet plan?

I quit smoking about 6 months ago, although I feel healthier and have more energy, and I workout every day, I've gained a bit of weight, about 20lbs since I quit. I was a 32 waist now i'm around 33-34 and none of my clothes fit me anymore : ( I don't want to waste my money on weight watchers or nutrisystem or any of that crap, and there's a MILLION weight loss books out there, so I don't even know where to start. I also realize that some of the weight i've gained is from muscle, but regardless, my stomach and sides have gotten a bit flabby, and my waist is getting too big to fit into my jeans. My arms are bigger, and my overall body muscle feels stronger and tighter, i'm still gaining too much weight on my waist, sides, and chest.

I know whole wheats and grains, no white foods, veggies, fruits, protein the size of my fist, whether it's meat, fish, or poultry, salads and all that. But I am terrible at making my own routine and sticking to it. Also concerned on what snack foods are ok to eat often, because that's been my problem, since I quit smoking, all I want to do is snack snack snack, my appetite sky rocketed after I quit and it's becoming a problem. especially after my workout, I feel really hungry, even if I drink a lot of water. and I was around 150lbs now i'm 170lbs and I'm not feeling too happy about it.

I'm just wondering if you have a diet you stick to, or a weight loss plan of your own, or even a personal trainer or dietician, anyone with some knowledge or personal experience in dieting, can you write out your daily routine that I may follow? Daily meals, snacks, exercises, etc. Also a good way to lose stomach fat, i do tons of crunches and leg flutters everyday and it's not touching my waist at all, I feel I have tight abs under the fat, but the fat isn't going anywhere. If not, could you recommend a good book to follow? I really appreciate any advice you may have to offer, thank you very much!

Question #3:

High FAT Diet--- Anorexia Recovery?

So, I think I have been struggling with anorexia-like symptoms in the past 3 months- I am 16 years old, female and a vegetarian (for about a year and a half now, not for weight-loss reasons). I used to be very athletic: 5ft 7" (170cm) fluctuating between 129.8 lbs (59kg)-134.2 lbs (61kg). However, I lost about 19.8 lbs (9kg) in 2 months during exam time (and off-season for sports) and have continued losing, now I'm down to 106.7 lbs (48.5kg).. and on bad days even less. I mainly decreased my food intake and controlled portion sizes (but nothing extreme, like I'd have yoghurt and fruit for lunch, I never skipped) but I actually was not exercising AT ALL, even though I REALLY wanted to and felt depressed because I didn't have time. As soon as my exams were over though I started running again and jumping rope.
I've realised that I'm weaker now and I cant enjoy myself the way I used to so I want to (and need to) gain weight. My Body Fat Percentage is 13.6%. The problem is that I'm still scared of gaining FAT and not just WEIGHT. I still exercise for 90 minutes about 4 times a week (basketball) and I'm thinking about joining a gym when I start gaining so that I start gaining my strength back too. I have been reading a lot about recovery and meal plans, etc and I've read that we need a lot of protein, frequent meals, increasing calories slowly, etc. However, I went to a nutritionist and she put me on this diet:
At every meal and snack:
- 2 Tbsp Black Honey
- 2 Tbsp Halva (Halawa, it's a very dense sweet)
- Milk with bananas or Guava

Breakfast:
- Sandwich (Beans/ Eggs/ Falafel/ Cheese)
- Yoghurt
- Fruit (Optional)
+ Egg

Snack:
- Cake/ Creme Caramel/ Rice pudding/ Nuts

Lunch:
- Rice/ Pasta
- Vegetables/ Salad

Snack (Same as above)

Dinner (Either like lunch or Breakfast, depending on the day)

She told me that I really need to increase my body fat (I've been missing periods for about 5 months now). But I'm so scared with all the Cakes, Halva, Honey and all that because it's unhealthy fat. I haven't told her what I've been dealing with but that diet honestly seems like too much fat and too little healthy stuff (like fruits and vegetables, beans) which I actually enjoy eating. The amount of food is overwhelming (even though she didn't specify specific amounts), but also the type of food is overwhelming too. I know with weight gain that I WILL gain fat, but I'm just wondering, is that a healthy diet? Any Recommendations?
**Sorry for the long message :D
She also said I could have chocolate for the snack. I found that weird because all the links I've read say that when you're recovering you want to avoid having too much fat!!
I'm lacto-ovo vegetarian and i used to LOVE cheeses so that might help too. Also, is the amount of starches and sugars I'll be having okay?
I Forgot to mention that she also told me to have french fries with lunch and dinner,,

Question #4:

weight loss - how realistic is this goal?

im 160 pounds and 5'3. female.
id like to be 120 pounds by Christmas this year. that gives me just over 3 months to lose 40 pounds.

will be eating 3 meals a day (college provided so i dont get to choose but i will try and take healthy options and eat small portions)
will also be working out at least 3 times a week for an hour but will try for more.

Question #5:

Flat stomach in 10 days?

There's a pool party in 10 days, and I want to look really good. But this party isn't as much as a "Ooh look at me in my bikini". This party is gonna be at night, with booze and dancing and smoking. So I'm not SUPER concerned, seeing as nobody will really be paying attention. I still want to look good and be healthy, though (:

All I really need is to lose 2 inches off my belly. I know, targeted weight loss doesn't work. But I'm just stating the area of fat. Is it possible to get it in 10 days? What should I do to make it? Any additional information that can help?
Thanks!

Question #7:

Ideas for lunch when you work . . . A LOT?

Hi everyone, I work usually from 8am to 10pm and by the time I've showered & spent a little time with my husband I have to go to bed & wake up at 6am again. I haven't been preparing lunches for myself. My work is very stressful & fast paced. I cannot take a lunch EVER so I eat at my desk & basically ask whoever might be picking something up to get me something too. I've gained about 25lbs from what I think is just stress eating, trying to keep my energy going, and having nothing in walking distance that's healthy. What would you recommend that I could take to work that I don't have to cook? I was thinking canned soups maybe? I'm at a loss & not willing to gain any more weight from being stressed :-(

Question #8:

How do I tell my little sister to lose weight?

Good afternoon everyone!

I am in a bit of a predicament. My little sister and I are pretty close, although we only met 4 years ago. I am 21 yo, shes 16. When we first met we exchanged baby photos and everything. I noticed that as she got older, the more weight she put on. Shes a great girl. Very smart, well spoken, and has a pretty face. The thing is, she really needs to lose weight.

When we first met she commented that she felt like the "fat" sister, I assured her that all she had to do was watch her diet and work out daily, plus, at that time, she wasnt that big. Really, she was "thick".

We fell out of contact for a while and I just saw her recently, after a 2 year hiatus.

She. is. huge.

She is morbidly obese, extremely large.

I didnt even know what to say when i saw her, so i didnt say anything. I am so pissed about this because its obvious that she doesnt like her body; shes always talking about how much she hates her body. But for some reason, no one will sit her down and tell her to shape up. I hate to place blame, but ill do it anyway. Its her mothers fault. Her mother is, herself, morbidly obese - about 400lbs at 5'3''. Instead of making sure her daughter doesnt follow down the same unhealthy path, she stocks the fridge with sodas, pies and fried chicken.

Her mother once told me a story about how she would give my sister PIGS FEET at 9 months old. When I heard that I wanted to slap her in the face. Why would you do that to your own child? Its not even the fact that it tastes terrible, but pigs feet is 99.9% pure fat! Its like she crippled my sister before she even had a chance.

My sister has never had a boyfriend, never had a date, and generally feels like s.hit all the time. Her personality is stellar, and her face is to die for, but you know how boys that age are, they dont even look her way. It really gets to her self esteem. Also, she has asthma. Now, Its blatantly obvious to me (a medical student) that weight loss would damn near cure my sisters "asthma" (her personal situation - not a blanket statement). But if you leave it to her mother to tell, she cant so much as step on a treadmill before having an aneurysm. Her mother cripples her into thinking she is this sickly creature.

Once while spending the night, her mother woke me in the middle of the night to tell me my sister had a fever. A fever, that is, of 101.0. I assured her that the body's average temperature is 98.6. She then assured ME that my sisters AVERAGE temp is usualy 97.0. I told her that even then there would only be a 4 degree difference. On a (then) 14 year old girl, she was perfectly fine.

Apparently I didnt know what the hell I was talking about, because she took her to the ER that same night. For a temp of 101.0. The doctors never even saw them - the nurses told them to go home, and return if it got worse.

You see what Im up against? I cant stand that kind of babying.

Her mother tells her that she should just be happy with her body the way she is, and she should be. But at some point the rose colored shades have got to come off. She is currently 5'6'', 275lbs. Its just not healthy, and if no one else is gonna tell, I guess its gonna have to be me.

Now if you cant already tell, I dont sugar my thoughts. I just got out of the army and am still getting used to not being so "blunt" about my thoughts. How do I tell her to put the cinnabon down and strap on an ankle-weight?

ps - I love to work out and wouldnt mind helping her get her diet on track, and showing her around the gym.
Thanks

Question #10:

Will this be enough exercise?

I've been on a bit of a fitness, healthy eating kick lately in order to try and lose weight and it seems to be working. However I start back at university next week and it's an important year, and I'm frightened that I'm not going to have enough time to continue with my good work!
I have worked out that if I manage my time effectively I could get in a workout of a ten minute warm up, around ten-fifteen minutes of high intensity aerobics, a five minute toning session and a cool down every day. Is this enough exercise to continue with my weight loss or should I be trying to fit in more?
Is it better to try and exercise every day for a relatively short period or 3-4 times a week for longer periods?
